Brief History of Berry Bros & Rudd of London

Founded in 1698, Berry Bros & Rudd is of the oldest and spirits merchants in London. Originally established a wine shop on St. James’s Street, the company quickly gained a reputation for quality and expertise. Throughout the centuries, it has maintained its commitment to sourcing exceptional wines and spirits from around the world, serving both private clients and commercial establishments.

In the 19th century, Berry Bros & Rudd expanded its offerings and established a strong presence in the wine trade, becoming a trusted name among connoisseurs. The company also began to develop its own private labels and exclusive selections, further enhancing its prestige.

Today, Berry Bros & Rudd continues to operate from its historic premises in London, blending tradition with innovation. It remains renowned for its extensive selection of fine wines and spirits, expert advice, and commitment to preserving its rich heritage while adapting to modern market demands.

2017 saw the openning of the BBR retail store located around the corner from the original shop. The two locations are adjoined by a walk through hall and the retail space at 63 Pall Mall. The new addition is the destination for the finest wines in London. The design of the new store was by Mowat & Company. The project involved transforming the ground floor of a building on 62–63 Pall Mall into a modern retail wine shop for Berry Bros. & Rudd — their first new London shop since the company’s founding in 1698.

All external and internal signage was made as a duplication of the original identity. The distinctive BBR marks were crafted by NGS Signwriting and Pentagram design studio.
