The beauty of the naked letter
Today hand made lettering is finally being recognised as art in it’s own right.
For me this is no breaking news as I have always painted letters rather like I do portraits… as I see them they are individual characters.
The mark of a great letter is fairly complex on the one side and in some cases the very opposite of that in it’s immediacy and simple first impression ‘hit’.
A letter must be alive.
It shouldn’t rely on over dressing.
It requires love, desire and dedication. All the good things.
I paint mine but it doesn’t matter at all how they are created. As longs as they are crafted from the heart.
